The course the Mighty Zambezi River flows

Upper course

In the  upper course of the Zambezi river, totalling about 800 km , the river falls only about 180 m .The river forms the great cataract known as Victoria Falls, at about an 100 km  below its confluence with the Kwando River, it rushes through a narrow gorge 122 m deep, and for the next 72 km.

Middle course

After that it then enters its middle course and from here it flows through hilly country for about 1300 km  to Quebrabasa Rapids, which is  the last great natural barrier to navigation, in Mozambique.

Lower course

When it comes to the lower course, it flows through a broad valley to the sea. The chief tributaries of the upper river , besides the Kwando River, includes the Kabompo and the Lungwebungu .In  middle course the Zambezi, it receives no important tributaries, i.e the chief affluent of the lower river is the Shire

The Total length of the Zambezi is a wide debate and no real GPS tracking has taken place leaving the range from 2700kms - 3200kms.

We intend to document the Flora and Fauna as well as take a series of photos along the River and accurately document the true length of the Zambezi. Our goal is to kayak between 50 – 70kms per day and find accommodation along the shore line.

We will be posting hopefully everyday to keep you update on what the day turned out to be, granted there is 3g or any connection at all.

We will mainly post pictures and maybe a few video clips of the trip

Wish us luck, we are going to need it
